Three levels of Painter are defined; qualifications and pay increase with experience.
Qualifications (all levels)
- High school diploma or GED
- Current valid Texas Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record as determined by the Texas School Bus Driver’s requirements
- Ability to speak, read, and understand the English language
Painter III
Qualifications
- Minimum of one (1) year trade experience preferred
- Select from pre-mixed paints and mix from color formulas
- Knowledge of power tools and equipment related to painting
- Able to learn and take instructions, oral or written, from others with more experience or knowledge
Pay
$15.15 per hour (HS4 salary based on verifiable job-related experience as set by the Board of Trustees for the school year)
Responsibilities
- Perform assigned tasks cheerfully and promptly
- Work in harmony with others
- Complete each task with the proper written records as prescribed by the department
- Fill holes, cracks, and joints with caulk, plaster, or other filler
- Prepare surfaces for painting by sanding, scraping, or other mechanical or chemical processes
- Remove fixtures, such as switch plate covers and decorations from walls
- Erect scaffolding or set up ladders as needed to perform tasks above ground
- Wash and clean equipment related to the painting process after each use
- Spread drop cloths over floors and furnishings and cover surfaces with masking tape and paper to protect surfaces not being painted
- Paint uniformly and rapidly to any surface, free of sags, runs, or streaks
- Apply finish coats to all surfaces, such as wood, concrete, metal, masonry, plaster, and drywall
- Assist other personnel or other departments as needed or assigned
- Regular and reliable attendance
Painter II
Qualifications
- Minimum of two (2) years trade experience required, three (3) years preferred
- Maintain and troubleshoot equipment related to the painting trade
- Knowledge of reducers for various types of coatings related to the painting trade
Pay
$16.61 per hour (HS6 salary based on verifiable job-related experience as set by the Board of Trustees for the school year)
Responsibilities
- All the responsibilities of a Painter III
- Prepare all surfaces using primer and sealers to make surface suitable for finish coat
- Prepare the surface for hanging vinyl wall covering
- Make spot repairs or touch-ups to vinyl wall coverings
- Troubleshoot problems and take the necessary steps to fix them
- Work from plans or blueprints
- Tape and float, and texture over any patch so that it will blend in when painted
- Mix paint to match existing colors
- Set up striping equipment and stripe parking lots and sports courts over existing lines
- Regular and reliable attendance
Painter I
Qualifications
- Minimum of three (3) years trade experience required, four (4) years preferred
- Gracefully able and willing to teach accrued knowledge to fellow employees
Pay
$18.28 per hour (HS7 salary based on verifiable job-related experience as set by the Board of Trustees for the school year)
Responsibilities
- All the responsibilities as listed for Painter II and III
- Calculate material and man-hours needed for jobs
- Maintain accurate records on material and labor used
- Observe work in progress to assure quality in workmanship
- Perform large-scale tape and float jobs uniformly and rapidly
- Remove vinyl wall coverings and prepare the surface for either new paint or vinyl
- Set up striping equipment and layout striping for new unmarked parking lots and outdoor sports courts as specified by UIL guidelines
- Regular and reliable attendance
Physical Demands & Working Conditions (all levels)
- Must be able to lift and carry 75 pounds
- Be available to work different schedules or shifts to accomplish tasks
- Be available for after-hour demands, subject to 24-hour responsibility
- Maintain emotional control under stress
- Ability to work alone
- Ability to keep information confidential
- 260-day employment term
