Duties
- Preserve the hull and components by sealing the submarine with chemicals and paints that prevent corrosion and protect against the accumulation of marine life
- Interpret blueprints, technical manuals and shipyard procedures
- Surface preparation and painting functions, which involves solvent washing, sanding and/or grit blasting
- Measure and document paint thicknesses in order to maintain a high level of quality
- Use various shop equipment including table saws, drill presses, routers, sandblast equipment, brush, roller, airless spray and other specialized equipment and air and electric hand held tools
Requirements
- High school diploma/GED OR a minimum of 2 years related technical experience
- Available to work all shifts
- Ability to work at heights, confined spaces and extreme temperature conditions as required
- Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools
- Must be able to obtain and maintain respiratory qualifications
Qualifications
- Preferred Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs
- Painting experience in at least one of the following areas; Marine Industry, Industrial, residential, autobody or relevant trade experience and/or training
- Mold makers, carpentry and masonry experience
- Experience applying coatings via brush, roller, conventional sprayers & airless sprayers
- Knowledge and use of Graco or equivalent painting tools & equipment
- NACE certification
- Ability to read blueprints and work with basic hand and power tools
