Painter- Entry level and Skilled

Duties

• Preserve the hull and components by sealing the submarine with chemicals and paints that prevent corrosion and protect against the accumulation of marine life
• Interpret blueprints, technical manuals and shipyard procedures
• Surface preparation and painting functions, which involves solvent washing, sanding and/or grit blasting
• Measure and document paint thicknesses in order to maintain a high level of quality
• Use various shop equipment including table saws, drill presses, routers, sandblast equipment, brush, roller, airless spray and other specialized equipment and air and electric hand held tools

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED OR a minimum of 2 years related technical experience
• Available to work all shifts
• Ability to work at heights, confined spaces and extreme temperature conditions as required
• Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools
• Must be able to obtain and maintain respiratory qualifications

Qualifications

• Preferred Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs
• Painting experience in at least one of the following areas; Marine Industry, Industrial, residential, autobody or relevant trade experience and/or training
• Mold makers, carpentry and masonry experience
• Experience applying coatings via brush, roller, conventional sprayers & airless sprayers
• Knowledge and use of Graco or equivalent painting tools & equipment
• NACE certification
• Ability to read blueprints and work with basic hand and power tools
