About the role

Under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Building Trades, Painter II performs all aspects of painting within the institution. Ensures all safety rules and practices are observed.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains order and supervises the conduct of incarcerated people.
  • Prevents escape and injury to themselves or others or to state property.
  • Maintains security of working areas and work materials.
  • Inspects premises and searches incarcerated people for contraband such as weapons or illegal drugs.
  • Leads and trains subordinates and less senior personnel.
  • Advise them of unusual problems, procedures, and safety practices.
  • Incarcerated people will be always supervised by staff, including movement to and from work areas.

Requirements

Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires that each full-time employee receive a three (3) percent reduction in pay in exchange for five (5) hours of PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes.

Working Conditions

The California State Prison – Los Angeles County (LAC) is in Lancaster, CA (Antelope Valley) – home to our State’s Poppy Flower. LAC is approximately forty-five (45) minutes North of Valencia, CA, which is home to Six Flags Magic Mountain and is approximately seventy-five (75) miles North from Downtown Los Angeles/ Hollywood.

Special Requirements

  • Must possess the minimum qualifications as outlined in the Classification Specification.
  • Must complete a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
