About the role

The role involves painting automotive components to achieve standard finishes. It requires the ability to read and interpret various documents and perform calculations. Essential functions include hand blasting, operating various sanding tools, preparing surfaces, applying finishes, and maintaining cleanliness.

Responsibilities

  • Use of wet and dry film thickness gauges
  • Understanding and following hazard waste barrel guidelines
  • Preparing units and parts by using masking tape, caps, plugs, plastic, etc.
  • Loading and unloading parts carts or monorail systems
  • Maintaining cleanliness on all spray-related equipment
  • Mixing finishes to the correct ratio prior to application
  • Operating airless spray, HVLP, air assisted spray, and electro-static spray equipment
  • Monitoring viscosity of all finishes daily
  • Applying decals to completed units
  • Completing SPC charts and/or titration of washers daily
  • Performing other duties as determined by supervision

Requirements

  • Considerable skill in using various types of paint
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to create/interpret various data collection tools

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred

Skills

Essential skills include the ability to safely operate various painting equipment, maintain cleanliness, and adhere to safety protocols. Basic computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications are preferred.

Working Environment

The physical demands include standing, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in a paint environment with exposure to solvents, adhesives, hydraulic oil, and petroleum products. The position is located on the production shop floor in multiple buildings.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Maintain departmental housekeeping and 5S standards
  • Perform job functions in a safe manner
  • Wear all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required by Company Policy for the job being performed
  • Follow established job-specific and facility-wide safety and health procedures and rules
  • Participate in safety and health training and demonstrate competency based on training received
  • Bring safety and health issues, unsafe acts, and safety suggestions to management's attention or correct those you can
  • Complete a medical surveillance questionnaire each year if required to wear a half or full face respirator
  • Collect and properly dispose of paint-related waste associated with paint gun flush activities
