What You’ll Do
- Prepare surfaces, apply coatings, inspect finished work, and support safe, efficient production paint operations.
Surface Preparation
- Perform blasting and blow-off processes to: Remove weld smut, smoke, loose scale, and steel blast grit
- Inspect components to ensure proper blast quality before coating
- Wipe down trailers and components using approved solvents to remove overspray, overlaps, and residue
Painting & Undercoating
- Apply primer at required mil thickness, ensuring uniform coverage
- Inspect primed components prior to topcoating and correct defects such as runs or sags
- Apply topcoat finishes at required mil thickness
- Apply undercoating to trailer components as required for protection and durability
Inspection & Equipment Operation
- Visually inspect paint and undercoating for quality, coverage, and defects
- Operate unload machines and inspect components for damage or defects; repair as needed
- Enter component numbers and production data accurately into computerized systems
Safety, Quality & Productivity
- Perform all tasks in a safe, efficient, timely, and accurate manner according to company policy
- Maintain high productivity while meeting quality standards
- Contribute to team efforts to produce a quality product
- Maintain dependable attendance and work scheduled hours
- Support mandatory overtime as required
- Perform other duties as assigned to support production operations
Education What You Bring
- High school diploma or equivalent (based on education and work experience)
- 1–3 months of related experience and/or training preferred, including:
- Equipment operation
- Application techniques
- Basic troubleshooting
- Ability to work at a fast pace and take responsibility for errors
- Strong attention to quality and detail
- Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing
- Basic math skills, including understanding mixing ratios
- Ability to assist management directly when needed
- Ability to pass a pulmonary function test
Work Environment & Physical Expectations
- This position requires the ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Physical requirements include prolonged standing and walking, climbing, lifting, and working with arms above shoulder level.
- Employees are frequently exposed to paint fumes, airborne particles, and solvents.
- Required PPE includes steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators, gloves, coveralls, and hoods when in the paint booth.
