About the role
The Paint Technician is responsible for refinishing vehicles to restore their appearance and deliver a high-quality, manufacturer-approved finish. This position requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and strict adherence to paint, safety, and environmental procedures.Responsibilities
- Prepare vehicles for painting, including sanding, masking, priming, and sealing
- Mix and match paint colors in accordance with manufacturer and paint supplier specifications
- Apply primers, base coats, clear coats, and specialty finishes using spray equipment
- Ensure finishes are smooth, consistent, and free from defects such as runs, fisheyes, and orange peel
- Perform buffing, polishing, and minor surface corrections as required
- Inspect completed paint work to verify color match and overall quality
- Maintain a clean, organized paint booth and related work areas
- Follow all manufacturer and paint supplier repair procedures
- Properly handle, store, and dispose of paint materials and chemicals
- Collaborate closely with body technicians, estimators, and production staff to ensure efficient workflow
- Accurately complete repair orders, documentation, and timecards
- Maintain paint equipment and report maintenance or supply needs
- Adhere to all workplace, environmental, health, and safety regulations
Requirements
- High school or college automotive body repair diploma
- Valid Paint Technician license
- 5–7 years of experience in a collision repair or body shop environment (preferred)
- Valid driver’s license
- Proven skills in automotive refinishing and repair
- Ability to work independently in a busy, production-driven environment
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Flexible, dependable, and able to work under pressure
- Professional, tactful, and team-oriented approach
- Regular use of hand and power tools
- Ability to lift up to 80 lbs
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as respirators, gloves, and safety footwear
- Exposure to heat, humidity, dust, fumes, and noise
- Requires excellent stamina, manual dexterity, and coordination
- Ability to stand, bend, lift, push, pull, and carry objects throughout the shift
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in a collision repair environment
- Modern, well-equipped paint facilities
Qualifications
