About the role
The Paint Line Worker prepares gears and other parts for shipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment under moderate supervision. The position involves multiple specialized tasks within the paint line process.
Responsibilities
- Cover/Cover Installer: Install seals in steering gears by applying grease under seals when required; hang arms to be painted.
- Loader/Unloader: Pull gears/arms from skids and hang them on the paint line; scan barcodes into AS400 computer system; place barcode tickets on holders; cover output shafts with plastic tubes; place magnets on dirt shield areas. Unload by removing painted gears/arms from hooks, placing correct barcode labels, and sending them to the "prepper." Visually inspect each arm to ensure no paint in splines or ball holes.
- Masker/Painter: Cover areas on gears/arms with magnets and shields that are not to be painted; apply dirt shields to steering gears as required. Maintain daily and monthly checklists for the paint booth area.
- Unmasker: Remove all masking from gears/arms after powder coating without disturbing the thin powder layer. Maintain daily and monthly checklists for the paint booth area; vacuum and mop the paint room floor daily.
- Prepper: Scan barcodes of gears differing from the last group; follow AS400 system instructions to prep models by placing grease, boots, shields, nets, retainers, etc. Install pitman arms on steering gears as needed.
- Skidder: Scan each barcode into AS400 before placing gears on the correct skid; pre-load conveyor with packaging materials; follow skidding instructions in the Carpenter’s manual; print tickets, strap, and shuttle skids for inspection; box gears daily.
- Pre-Torque: Verify pitman arm timing; install and pre-torque retainers; make retainers as needed. Help unload painted pitman arms from conveyors and place them in correct storage bins.
- Pitman Arm Installer: Install pitman arms on gears; contact inspection for first-piece inspection; scan barcodes into AS400 and enter torque data for each arm. Read depth gauges and calibrate torque tools daily.
- Carpenter: Construct skids for steering gear shipments; rework purchased skids and build specialty skids for machine parts and specialty items.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions
- Exposure to moderate heat, light dust, fumes, extreme temperatures, noise, and hazards such as electrical shock or gases.
- Some outside assignments may involve adverse weather conditions.
- Adequate hearing protection is required for noise levels of 85 decibels and above.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Basic MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).
- One year of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in shipping/receiving in a production/manufacturing setting.
- Completion of forklift certification.
- Problem-solving skills and ability to prioritize under pressure.
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques (Standardized Work, Continuous Improvement, 5S, JIT principles).
- Ability to work overtime as needed, including daily and weekends.

Schedule
8-hour Day Shift, Monday through Friday.
