Paint Department Supervisor
About the role
The Paint Supervisor plays a crucial role in the maintenance and operations department at Caltech. Reporting to the Director of Maintenance and Operations, this individual oversees the Paint Shop, ensuring all safety procedures are followed and maintaining a safe work environment.
Responsibilities
- Create and enforce all safety procedures and maintain a safe and secure work environment.
- Use the IWMS for daily staff employee work management timekeeping reviews and approvals.
- Use the Caltech Timekeeping System UKG for daily review of staff timecard activity for payroll.
- Enhance customer satisfaction by establishing regular communications regarding maintenance and repair activities for affected disciplines.
- Perform field inspections to review work progress and resolve work conflicts.
- Oversee the inspection and maintenance of all paint jobs, both external and internal.
- Work with Project Managers in estimating, design, and layout of projects, scheduling, and monitoring of projects, and provide necessary materials and information.
- Work closely with other Departments and Shops in Facilities Management to optimize productivity.
- Manage Caltech resources for optimum productivity.
- Manage shop budgets and report financial performance status.
- Utilize the Caltech Facilities Materials Management processes to support the efficient ordering and deployment of materials.
- Respond to trouble calls, emergency conditions, and analyze routine work requests for timely execution and completion.
- Evaluate and manage shop personnel for performance, training opportunities, work schedules, vacations, discipline, and merit salary adjustments.
- Provide written and oral reports effectively.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Five years’ supervisory experience in a large campus or facility.
- Overseeing and taking part in the construction, operation, maintenance, and repair.
- Ability to modify and/or adapt designs, procedures, or methods to make necessary alterations and modifications.
- Communicate professionally with the members of the Caltech community in all situations.
- Software proficiency in MS Word, Excel, MS Project, and Outlook.
- Able to work independently and follow through on assignments.
- Skilled in estimating material and labor requirements to accomplish tasks.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to maintain it throughout the course of employment.
- Must be able to adhere to the Institute's vehicle policy.
- Must have effective oral and written communication skills and must use correct punctuation, vocabulary, spelling, and sentence structure.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a daily basis, bend in all directions, climb stairs and ladders, squeeze with arms and hands, operate machinery using hands, and work outdoors in all kinds of weather.
- Strong teamwork, project management, and problem resolution skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of experience in related field.
- Proficiency with AiM (Asset Works) and UKG or similar preventive maintenance and timekeeping software would be a plus.
