Pain Specialist-Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

Nurse Practitioner provides diagnosis, treatment, consultation, and follow-up under the supervision of a physician. The NP provides age and specialty appropriate medical care at the level of training achieved. Provides quality of care through continuity and coordination of care from other providers and community resources. This position will focus primarily on managing chronic pain patients.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of acute, chronic, and long-term healthcare issues.
• Effectively identifies, evaluates, and addresses disease prevention and health promotion issues of the population in the practice while administering quality patient care under the oversight of the supervising physician.
• Educates patients and/or families about preventive care, medical issues, and use of prescribed medical treatments and/or medications.
• Leads a team (which can include nurse, clinical assistant, case manager, and reception) to provide comprehensive healthcare following a patient-centered medical home model.
• Gathers information about empaneled patients to identify needs, works with clinic administration to ensure access to care, facilitates case management for patients with above-average medical needs, and participates in ongoing quality improvement projects.
• Manages medical records, including timely patient charting and documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Assists the clinic operations manager with ensuring proper medical records and billing procedures are accurate and timely according to hospital policy.
• Coordinates and recommends training on medical records, confidentiality, and other patient-related subjects for staff handling patient information.
• Assists with developing and revising clinical procedures as necessary.
• Analyzes new knowledge gained from conferences, workshops, professional literature, or hands-on training and assimilates this knowledge into clinical practice.
• Works with the Chief Operating Officer to ensure adherence to procedures and protocols regarding the standard of care.
• Provides direction to clinical staff regarding patient care, data reporting and gathering, and communication with patients.
• Attends Medical Staff meetings and serves on Medical Staff Committees, participating in peer review.
• Provides community education when requested and collaborates with clinic management to generate reports and outcome measures.
• Participates in Performance Improvement and Quality Initiatives as needed.
• Completes mandatory training on EHR and demonstrates basic competency in applicable functions; competency in EHR is required to work and/or admit patients.

Requirements

• Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Idaho.
• Current BLS certification required.
• Current DEA certificate without restriction.
• Controlled Substance Certificate from the Board of Pharmacy.
• Current ACLS certification is preferred.
• Must maintain medical staff privileges with Syringa Hospital as approved by the medical staff and board of trustees.
