Packer

Duties

• Helps perform a variety of tasks involved in packing and repacking non-hazardous and/or hazardous materials and items.
• Selects proper container and methods of packing, cushioning, and follows specialized packing procedures.
• Examines any prepackaged items to determine whether repacking or over-packing is required, consolidates shipments, and applies certification, identification, and shipping data.
• Applies a wide range of packing methods and techniques, including blocking and bracing, based on regulations covering the packing and transporting of hazardous materials.
• Packs, preserves, or re-packages material or items where techniques and procedures are standard and/or require little deviation from established methods.
• Performs receiving, storing, shipment, and distribution of a variety of bin supplies, materials, equipment, and commodities using material handling equipment such as fork lift, stock selectors, etc.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Tour of duty: Set schedule.
• Security requirements: Non-Critical Sensitive with Secret Access.
• Appointment subject to the completion of a favorable suitability or fitness determination, where reciprocity cannot be applied; unfavorably adjudicated background checks will be grounds for removal.
• Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Non-Exempt.
• Selective Service Requirement: Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
• Recruitment incentives: Not Authorized.
• Bargaining unit status: Yes.
• Selectees are required to have a REAL ID or other acceptable identification documents to access certain federal facilities.
• Pre-Employment physical: Required.
• Must have an unexpired State Driver’s License to obtain/maintain required MHE certification.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Material Handling Equipment (MHE) license.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain licenses and/or certifications required by the installation, federal, state, and local laws.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license/certification to operate government vehicles.
• Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid MHE license.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain required hazardous materials handling certifications.
