Packer

About the role

The Packer position reports directly to the lead person and is responsible for packing eggs into the correct carton with the correct date codes while maintaining a food safety culture.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the proper code (best by/sell by) is present on all cartons.
• Verify correct eggs are being packed with code facing opening/handles for visibility.
• Confirm the correct lane code is on the carton and alert the Processing Lead to any problems on the line.
• Place labels on cases for special run orders.
• Re-work cartons for improper coding and re-flat eggs when necessary.
• Maintain a clean work area before breaks and at the end of the day.
• Change cases/products without stopping and grab properly labeled boxes.
• Communicate quality issues (size, dirt, checks) to the Processing Lead.
• Alert the Processing Lead when down to the last box (15 cartons).
• Monitor for changeovers and missing or illegible dates on cartons.
• Maintain more than one lane at a time with minimal spills.
• Identify packable eggs (no dirty cartons in cases) and lane expectations (restricts, packable, or overflow).
• Take full rework carts to the front loader for reprocessing.
• Identify lane buttons, including emergency stops.
• Dispose of spilled eggs into an inedible bucket or blue barrel.
• Report food safety and quality issues to responsible personnel.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to speak, understand, and perform basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) in English.
• Apply common sense and reasoning to job tasks.
• Ability to lift 25 lbs as needed.
• Egg processing or manufacturing experience is helpful but not required.

Work Environment

• Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts.
• Moderate noise level in the work environment.
• Required PPE: Disposable rubber gloves.
