Packaging Operator (Rotational Shift)

Starting pay: $24.93/hr + $1.05 shift differential.

About the role

The Packaging Operator will work in a dynamic team-based environment with the responsibility to safely produce the highest quality cat litter in the correct amount at the right cost. This role involves operating and maintaining high-speed packaging equipment, performing quality checks, implementing improvements, and contributing to the overall success of the plant.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all safety and quality standards and guidelines; report unsafe conditions, near misses, and/or injuries in a timely manner.
• Operate, monitor, and adjust equipment within the Packaging Department as needed.
• Review and reconcile system data; create reports and perform root cause analysis.
• Deliver against daily, weekly, and monthly production targets.
• Leverage technology (e.g., daily review of email, production schedules, troubleshooting guides, job aides).
• Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical equipment within training/certification limits.
• Ensure area housekeeping tasks are completed and workplace organization is maintained.
• Participate in creating training documentation and support the training of new Operators.
• Complete routine and preventative maintenance for area equipment.
• Maintain inventory storage areas, including cycle counts and wall-to-wall inventory counts.
• Start machines by engaging controls and tend or operate packaging equipment.
• Regulate machine flow, speed, or temperature; unload, transport, and supply raw materials.
• Stock and sort product for packaging or filling machine operation; replenish packaging supplies.
• Clean packaging containers, line and pad crates, or assemble cartons for product packing.
• Observe machine operations to ensure quality and conformity of filled or packaged products.
• Monitor the production line for issues such as pile-ups, jams, or glue adhesion problems.
• Adjust machine components, tension, and pressure based on product size or processing angle.
• Stop or reset machines when malfunctions occur; clear jams and report issues to a supervisor.
• Inspect and remove defective products and packaging material.
• Clean and remove damaged or inferior materials to prepare raw products for processing.
• Remove finished packaged items from machines and separate rejected items.
• Attach identification labels (e.g., lot numbers or shipping destinations) to finished items.
• Stack finished packaged items or wrap protective material around each item; pack items in cartons.
• Count and record finished and rejected packaged items.
• Enter data in computer systems and monitor instrumentation.
• Clean, oil, and make minor adjustments or repairs to machinery and equipment.
• Perform other duties as needed to support business operations as directed by Management.

Working Conditions

The Packaging Operator continually or frequently encounters these conditions during a shift:

• Exposure to dust and fine particles.
• Exposure to high noise levels.
• Exposure to moving equipment.
• Exposure to scents and odors.
• Repetitive gross and fine hand motions, including grasping, gripping, and bending hand/wrist.
• Standing (up to 12 hours per shift).
• Walking (up to 12 hours per shift).
• Wear common protective or safety equipment (safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats).
• Work at heights exceeding 6 feet.
• Work indoors, partially environmentally controlled.

The Packaging Operator occasionally or seldom encounters these conditions during a shift:

• Bending, twisting, or squatting.
• Climbing steps and ladders.
• Lifting and carrying, up to 50 lbs.
• Pushing and pulling, up to 50 lbs.
• Reaching above shoulder or performing work at or above shoulder height.
• Sitting.
• Wearing specialized protective or safety equipment.
• Working in an enclosed or open vehicle or equipment.
• Working in very hot or very cold temperatures.
• Working outdoors, exposed to weather.
• Working with cutting tools.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Willing and able to learn and master new concepts across departments.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills.
• Understanding of basic technical math and troubleshooting principles.
• Must be able to successfully complete Clorox Fork Truck Certification as outlined by the site policy.
