Essential Position Responsibilities

  • Operates a machine which bags finished products.
  • Assures packaging of dry pet food products takes place by machine.
  • Checks holding bins for proper products being stored.
  • Ensures codes on bags are accurate.
  • Affirmatively assures product bag seals properly.
  • Accurately documents production lots utilized to assist quality assurance program.
  • Works with other employees to rotate positions.
  • Reports line or machine problems to Packaging Lead.
  • Participates as a member of the Team.
  • Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members.
  • Attends appropriate team meetings.
  • Fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc.
  • Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforces actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.

Simmons Operating Systems Principles and Objectives

  • Familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies).
  • Understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.

Physical Activities

  • Must be able to work in temperature extremes (below 40 to over 100 degrees).
  • Work on feet for entire shift.
  • Lift and stack up to 55 pounds of packaged product from floor to shoulder height and empty package into packaging cylinder repetitively.
  • Hold 55 pounds of finished product inside a bag.
  • Climb up and down stairs/ladders to heights of up to 150 feet.
  • Work inside or outside.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • Uses head covering, ear plugs, safety glasses, non-skid steel toed boots, and any other protective equipment as needed or required.

Technical Experience

  • Previous machine operation skills, particularly packaging equipment skills preferred.

Industry Experience

  • Making experience in pet food production preferred.
