About the Role
The Packaging Operator I is responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient operation of packaging equipment in the Bag/Cup product division. In the event of absence, the position will be filled by adequately trained personnel.
Responsibilities
- Safely and effectively operate packaging equipment in the area.
- Maintain processing flow to achieve established target operational efficiency.
- Assist Positional Instructors/Corporate Trainers in training departmental staff as needed.
- Track, review, and communicate departmental KPIs in Safety, Quality, Productivity, waste, yield, and Equipment performance, ensuring daily targets are met or exceeded.
- Troubleshoot and repair equipment-related issues; work closely with the Maintenance team to maintain high equipment reliability through shift inspections and preventive maintenance programs. Complete Operate Basic Care inspection routes daily.
- Perform proper start-up and shutdown of equipment in the area.
- Communicate effectively within the department to ensure efficient and productive operations.
- Learn, operate, and adjust multiple packaging equipment and processes.
- Perform label verification and line clearance between batches as applicable.
Food Safety Responsibilities
- Complete required paperwork accurately and honestly.
- Adhere to all corporate GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), established SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), and Food Safety policies.
- Follow all Allergen control programs and procedures.
- Report suspicious packages, activities, and individuals.
- If monitoring CCPs (Critical Control Points), must be trained in HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) and adhere to approved HACCP plan(s).
Positional Accountabilities
- Ensure 100% adherence to all recipe designs; no deviations allowed.
- Ensure 100% adherence to all company GMPs and SOPs; no deviations allowed.
- Through training and experience, develop the ability to run, adjust, break down, and reassemble job-specific packaging equipment.
- Understand the implications of downtime and inefficient packaging; react to minimize downtime and contribute proactively to address future obstructions.
- Update the Packout Lead/Supervisor on efficiencies and any process hindrances; offer recommendations and solutions.
- Utilize designated paperwork/systems to track, verify, and adjust efficiencies; be prepared to explain successes and opportunities.
- Maintain real-time, position-specific inventory control; use floor-level inventory tracking systems accurately and efficiently.
- Assume responsibility for any line product put "on hold" or deemed "waste" due to line error or inefficiencies ("My line, My product").
- Assume responsibility for any line downtime related to Packaging line/equipment ("My line, My equipment").

Requirements
- Education and/or Experience: High school or technical school diploma; or three to six months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Language Skills: Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally in English as it pertains to the position.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs and chart recorders.
- Computer Skills: Knowledge of Human Machine Interface (HMI) panels and other basic computer skills.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid driver's license; pre-employment and annual screening of Motor Vehicle Record and personal automobile insurance coverage in accordance with company policy.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally required to walk; climb or balance; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision.
Work Environment
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and cold environment.
- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and toxic or caustic chemicals.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
