Packaging Inspector - Day Shift

Responsibilities

  • Ensure leads are aware of any changes for trays, can size, can codes, and scheduled orders
  • Inspect cans for label alignment, can codes, UPC, dents, droops, and all other defects
  • Strip improper labels by hand and with cutting utensils
  • Notify supervisor and maintenance of any mechanical problems or potential issues
  • Notify Tray Packer operator of label or code changes
  • Monitor and ensure proper label adhesion
  • Assist with can changeovers and manage downtime for cleanup
  • Verify that the can code matches the schedule and labels
  • Communicate changeovers with Unloader/Brite Stacker operators
  • Communicate with Palletizer operator to ensure proper pallet count
  • Perform weekly sanitation
  • Participate as a team member in ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies
  • Coordinate work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members
  • Attend appropriate team meetings
  • Foster strong team cohesiveness regarding major issues (e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes)
  • Identify areas lacking cohesiveness and bring them to the team leader’s attention
  • Support team efforts to resolve issues and reinforce actions needed for synergy
  • Understand Simmons' operating systems (e.g., quality, security, company policies) and maintain familiarity with them
  • Recognize the impact of individual actions on systems and communicate concerns or improvement ideas
  • Perform other duties as necessary to support business objectives

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English
  • Experience within a manufacturing/process environment with knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Machine operation experience preferred
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs

Skills

  • Attention to detail in inspecting cans and labels
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with team members and operators
  • Problem-solving to identify and address mechanical or operational issues
  • Teamwork and collaboration in a manufacturing environment

Physical Activities & PPE

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) includes steel-toed shoes, ear plugs, hair net, and safety glasses.
