About the Role

The Packaging Area Manager provides technical expertise to maintain, develop, and improve the packaging process. This role focuses on minimizing costs, ensuring safe operations, maintaining high product quality, and guaranteeing technical plant availability. The position involves leadership in operational excellence, process improvements, and technical documentation for the Packaging area.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for implementing and adhering to Tate & Lyle’s environmental health, safety, quality (Food Safety), and security (EHSQS) requirements for the packaging team.
  • Lead and participate in the operational excellence program through the performance management system.
  • Organize, plan, direct, and control process and technical changes, improvements, and documentation for the Packaging area.
  • Supervise Shift Supervisors, Production Shift Managers, production engineers (dotted line), and Operators, with overall responsibility for operations in the production/business unit.
  • Maintain and improve the area to minimize costs, ensure safe operations, and uphold product quality.
  • Ensure the technical care and condition of the area, guaranteeing defined technical availability according to production requirements.
  • Plan, manage, and organize engineering and technical support, including maintenance activities, technical changes, project management, and documentation.
  • Oversee repair and maintenance budgets and collaborate on capital investment budgets for the area.
  • Demonstrate cost awareness and responsibility in all business-oriented activities.
  • Lead and develop team members, providing guidance, expertise, and support for their growth.
  • Provide process, maintenance, and project expertise, combining engineering mastery with in-depth knowledge of plant requirements.
  • Initiate studies, projects, and new developments, solving unprecedented problems with a focus on long-term technical solutions.
  • Offer plant-specific technical expertise on new process developments, equipment innovations, and state-of-the-art maintenance and project techniques.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance of technical installations, maintenance practices, and documentation.
  • Actively support Tate & Lyle’s EHSQS culture, including adherence to Life Saving Principles (LSPs) and STOP WORK AUTHORITY.
  • Share responsibility for preparing, implementing, and promoting EHSQS Management Systems (J2EE).
  • Review EHSQS performance to meet company objectives and involve employees in relevant plans.
  • Assess EHSQS plans through audits and reviews, tracking corrective actions for incidents, hazards, and suggested improvements.
  • Review performance to ensure compliance with the Non-GMO program.

Requirements

  • Broad-based skills in engineering, planning, organizing, and people development.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to influence others and lead small teams.
  • Effective problem identification and solution skills.
  • Proven analytical and organizational ability, with financial acumen.
  • BS degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field, with at least 5 years of engineering and plant experience.

Work Environment

While performing duties in the plant, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The role occasionally involves exposure to extreme conditions, including inclement weather, heat, humidity, and dust. The noise level in the plant environment can be loud. Protecting people and the environment is foundational, with a focus on EHSQS values in all activities.

Pay

Starting pay for this position is $92,300 - $123,100 - $153,900 USD annually.
