Evaluation, Treatment, and Management
The PA evaluates, treats, and manages patients with urology conditions under the medical direction of the MD Chair of Urology and the Executive Director of APCs.
Qualifications
- A graduate of an AMA recognized Physician Assistant training program that is accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission or Education for Physician Assistant (ACR-PA)
- PA - Physician Assistant

- ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support (required)
Responsibilities
- Practices medical services under the supervision of a registered physician
- Reviews historical and physical data according to medical staff by-laws and regulations
- Works as a member of the general surgery team
- May render emergency medical service in emergencies
- Participates in quality improvement and risk management programs
- Completes medical records in a timely manner
- Writes admission orders and performs detailed histories and physicals on urology patients
- First assists in the operating room for urology surgery coverage and other surgical subspecialties
- Performs daily patient rounds and follows up on all patients and consults including physical exams, diagnostic and therapeutic intervention, and ordering routine labs, diagnostic tests, and consults
- Performs BLS and ACLS measures as needed
- Receives pages from the nursing staff regarding patient care and acts as the primary responding clinician
- Does not obtain surgical consents, autopsy permission, or organ donation permission
- Writes and signs progress notes, discharge summaries, and transfer summaries
- May write and sign orders according to PA prescription regulations and may renew or rewrite orders previously approved by the supervising physician
- Maintains safety education programs and operates assigned equipment in a safe manner
