About the role

The University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a full-time Physician Assistant or Acute Care Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner to support the Neurosurgery department at UPMC Mercy.

Hospital Hours: The schedule consists of four 10-hour shifts covering 7 days a week.

Position Specifics

As a key member of our close-knit team of inpatient APPs, you will work closely with residents and attending neurosurgeons to provide high-quality care to neurosurgical patients across all levels of care within the hospital. You will also be responsible for managing neurosurgical consults in a busy and diverse clinical environment. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced setting and is passionate about providing care to complex and critically ill patients in a trauma center.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and care for neurosurgical patients in all stages of their hospital stay, including pre-operative, post-operative, intensive care and, rehab units.
• Conduct neurosurgical consults in collaboration with the neurosurgical team.
• Work closely with residents, attending physicians, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure continuity and coordination of patient care.
• Participate in rounds, document care plans, and assist in the development of individualized treatment plans for patients.
• Maintain a focus on providing excellent patient-centered care in a high-acuity environment.

Qualifications

• Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately with the patients served as specified below
• Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span
• Possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to their age-specific needs
• Provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures
