Responsibilities
- Promote and support a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible work environment.
- Follow all safety and environmental rules and policies.
- Participate in Process Safety and Risk Reduction activities as requested.
- Accurately perform routine analyses, including control samples and calibration checks, without supervision.
- Strive to continually improve the quality process and support the requirements of the ISO Quality Management System.
- Perform unscheduled analyses with minimal guidance.
- Perform environmental sampling in accordance with required schedules and procedures, ensuring completeness and accuracy of paperwork and records.
- Assist in training as required.
- Proficiently operate instrumentation and equipment such as analytical balances, spectrometers, titrators, gas chromatographs, viscometers, roll mills, extruders, particle size analyzers, and rheometers.
- Troubleshoot equipment and instruments, requesting assistance when needed.
- Accurately record results and promptly identify and communicate deviations from process limits.
- Cook up to coordinate activities closely with production, utilities, loading, and shipping personnel.
- Provide additional laboratory support including, but not limited to: storing and maintaining production samples, packaging, and shipping samples, and maintaining supplies.
- Practice good housekeeping.
Qualifications
- Associates Degree in Chemistry or similar technical training* including technical apprenticeship and troubleshooting with two years QA/QC laboratory experience required OR a high school diploma or equivalent, with completion of at least two college chemistry courses and three years minimum experience in a chemical manufacturing QA/QC laboratory environment (OR one year in an OxyChem QA/QC laboratory).
- *NOTE: Qualifying programs, training, and courses require successful completion of eight hours of college chemistry.
- High proficiency in Microsoft applications (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to read, write, and speak in English.
- Must be able to respond to off-hour emergencies.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to work weekends, nights, holidays, and respond to callouts on a non-routine basis.
- Experience with SAP and Laboratory Information Management Systems preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs., climb ladders and stairs.
- Walking, bending, stooping is required.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator.
- Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms.
