Overnight Veterinary Technician - Emergency Room

About the role

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring experienced Veterinary Technicians to work Overnight in our busy Emergency and Critical Care department. This is an exciting, fast-paced opportunity to utilize skills gained and expand them while working alongside some of the most talented veterinary professionals.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.

Qualifications

• Experience in emergency and critical care settings.
• Current, unrestricted license to practice veterinary technology in the state of employment.
• Proficiency in anesthesia and monitoring equipment.
• Ability to triage and manage emergency cases effectively.
• Knowledge of digital radiography techniques and patient vital sign interpretation.
• Experience with phlebotomy and catheter placement.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.

Compensation is commensurate with experience.

Schedule

The schedule is typically overnight shifts, with rotating days off.
