Overnight Veterinary Technician - Emergency & ICU

Pay and Benefits

• Pay Range: $22.00 - $37.00/hour
  • Dependent on local veterinary licensing, experience, and advancement through competency assessment tool.
  • Shift Differential Pay for Nights and Weekends.
    • Mon – Thur: 6pm to 8am = +$3.50/hr.
    • Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = +$3.50/hr.
    • Fri - Sun: 6pm to 8am = +$5.00/hr.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Learn high level skills.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.

Qualifications

• Knowledgeable and skilled in emergency and critical care settings.
• Proficient in anesthesia and monitoring techniques.
• Ability to triage and manage emergency cases effectively.
• Strong understanding of patient vital signs and the ability to interpret them.
• Experience with digital radiography and related techniques.
• Proficiency in administering medications and performing various medical procedures.
• Ability to perform phlebotomy and place intravenous and central line catheters.
• Passionate about mentoring and training colleagues.
