Overnight Veterinary Technician

About the role

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Rockville, MD is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to join their Emergency Overnight team. Flexible weekly shifts, rotating weekends, and competitive pay are offered.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital, including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique, including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
• Perform additional relevant job responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Experience in veterinary medicine.
• Proficiency in anesthesia and monitoring equipment.
• Knowledge of digital radiography techniques.
• Understanding of normal patient vital signs.
• Ability to perform phlebotomy and place intravenous catheters.
• Experience with feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Mentoring and training skills.
• Patience and empathy for clients.

Pay

The pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through the competency assessment tool. Shift differential pay is offered for eligible hours worked on nights and weekends, with specific rates provided.
