Responsibilities
- Ensure consistent quality of production and plant sanitation by developing and enforcing above-standard manufacturing practices.
- Maintain GMP and HACCP compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Act as HACCP leader to ensure the HACCP program and pre-requisite programs are up-to-date and fully implemented in production.
- Provide leadership and direction to the plant QA team, including training, coaching, and developing QA technicians.
- Identify training needs, provide opportunities for personal growth, assess performance goals, and ensure adherence to company policies.
- Manage absenteeism and assist in disciplining when coaching is ineffective.
- Lead and assist during audits as assigned by the QA Manager.
- Maintain records of finished product specifications, SOPs, SSOPs, QA forms, etc.
- Create training materials to support GMP, HACCP, and Sanitation programs, and provide routine employee training on quality, regulatory, and food safety principles.
- Review plant issues, resolve problems, and follow up on customer/supplier complaints with corrective actions and preventive measures.
- Implement quality enhancement processes and procedures at the plant level to achieve process improvements and cost savings in conjunction with Plant Operations.
- Maintain programs such as Recall/Mock Recall, Traceability, FIFO, Continuous Improvement, Sanitation, Pest Control, and Food Security.
- Support third-party audits (GMP, Costco), customer, and internal audits.
- Manage direct reports of 2 QA Technicians and prepare recommendations for team development.
- Oversee facility sanitation through monitoring of environmental swabbing and communicate with the Sanitation team on identified cleaning issues.
- Review internal and external testing results for raw materials and finished products.
Qualifications
- Completion of a college diploma in Food Science or a related field.
- Preferred 5 years of experience in Quality Assurance.
- Required GFSI experience (SQF is an asset) and PCQI certification.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time management skills.
- People management skills preferred.
- Internal auditing skills preferred.
- Ability to work well in a team environment and collaborate across the organization.
- Previous leadership experience, preferably in a Food Processing facility.
- Disciplined, motivated, and accountable for all Quality Assurance matters.
- Strong systems skills (including MS Office).
