About the Role
Working at Target means helping all families discover the joy of everyday life. As a General Merchandise and Food Sales team member, you’ll lead inbound, outbound, replenishment, and promotional signing processes for all General Merchandise (GM) areas of the store. You’ll also oversee Food & Beverage and Food Service, ensuring a fresh and food-safe experience. This role involves pick, pack, and ship fulfillment, unloading trailer deliveries, and preparing merchandise for the sales floor.
Responsibilities
- Deliver a consistent, easy, inspiring, and friendly guest experience
- Train and hold team members accountable for guest experience commitments and operational consistency
- Review guest, financial, and team outcome metrics to identify opportunities and drive results
- Execute daily/weekly workload to meet department and store sales goals and guest engagement targets
- Plan and assign tasks based on workload and guest traffic patterns
- Assess GM backroom and sales floor areas to identify and resolve gaps
- Lead organizational and operational change with guidance from your direct leader
- Build, onboard, and develop a team of GM Experts through training and feedback
- Demonstrate inclusivity, ethical conduct, safety, and compliance
- Model and enforce physical security processes and merchandise protection strategies
- Assume store-level leadership on duty (LOD) responsibilities as needed
- Support guest services (e.g., back-up cashier, order pick-up, Drive Up) while maintaining compliance
- Occasionally perform other duties based on business needs
Skills
- Guest service fundamentals and building a guest-first culture
- Retail business fundamentals (sales trends, inventory management, pricing, promotions)
- Planning daily/weekly workload to support business priorities and sales goals
- Leading, interviewing, developing, coaching, evaluating, and retaining team members
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Age 18 or older
- Previous retail experience preferred but not required
- Ability to lead and hold others accountable
- Adaptability to current technology needs
- Independent and team-based work capabilities
- Strong workload management and prioritization skills
- Composure in fast-paced environments
- Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members
- Effective communication skills
- Access to all areas of the building to respond to guest or team member issues

- Climbing ladders as needed
- Frequent lifting, carrying, and moving merchandise up to 44 pounds (repetitive bending, twisting, reaching, and rotating motions)
- Flexible work schedule (nights, weekends, holidays, and variable hours)
- Reliable and prompt attendance
- Ability to work in varying temperatures, humidity, and other environmental conditions
- Mobility for the duration of scheduled shifts (shift length may vary)
