Overnight Emergency Veterinary Technician

About the role

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Christiana, DE is hiring an experienced Overnight Veterinary Technician to work in their busy Emergency and Critical Care department.

Responsibilities

  • Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
  • Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
  • Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
  • Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
  • Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
  • Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
  • Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
  • Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
  • Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
  • Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
  • Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.

Requirements

  • Experience in emergency and critical care settings.
  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), Licensed Veterinary Medical Technician (LVMT), or Certified Veterinary Specialist (VTS).
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights and weekends.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Passionate about enriching lives through remarkable care for pets.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current license to practice veterinary technology in the state of Delaware.
  • Completion of a recognized veterinary technician program.

Skills

  • Proficiency in anesthesia and monitoring equipment.
  • Knowledge of digital radiography techniques.
  • Ability to triage and manage emergency cases.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.

Pay

This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through the leveling system. Shift differential pay is offered for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends.

Schedule

Night shift: 6pm to 8am, with shift differential pay. Weekend shift: 6pm to 8am, and 8am to 6pm, with shift differential pay.
