About the role
Merrill Gardens at The University is seeking a compassionate, caring, responsible, and honest Universal Worker to support residents within our beautiful community. This is a NOC (night) shift position, Sunday and Monday from 10:45pm - 6:45am.
Responsibilities
- Maintenance:
- Performs general maintenance as needed or assigned, including defrosting refrigerators, changing light bulbs and A/C filters.
- Checks fire extinguishers, exits, and emergency lights monthly.
- Completes maintenance work orders and creates work orders for more specific maintenance needs.
- Ensures walls, floors, floor coverings, doors, windows, furniture, and woodwork in common areas are properly maintained and repaired.
- Repairs and maintains vacated rooms in a timely manner, including painting walls and cleaning carpets.
- Maintains and repairs all in-house plumbing as needed.
- Provides minor electrical work within units and in common areas.
- Completes all work orders in a timely manner, noting any additional work needed.
- Documents safety issues and physical plan deficiencies related to local, county, state, and federal guidelines.
- Assists Maintenance Supervisor in preventative maintenance and cleaning of community vehicles.
- Assists with training and development of safety procedures and hazard communications.
- Responds immediately and appropriately to accidents and emergencies based on established protocol.
- Paints common areas and vacant apartments.
- Housekeeping:
- Performs routine and deep cleaning of common areas and offices, including lobby, restrooms, stairwells, hallways, model and vacant apartments.
- Washes, dries, folds, and returns community and resident laundry.
- Stocks supplies in common areas, restrooms, and laundry carts.
- Washes interior windows and fixtures.
- Food Service:
- Sets up dining rooms, including updating menus, correct table set-up, and ensuring furnishings are clean.
- Sets up for special events.
- Support:
- Delivers papers, flyers, etc. to resident apartments.
- Answers phones.
- Collects new employee and resident information, makes copies, files, creates brochures for prospective residents, stocks office supplies, and assists with preparation of mailings.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- 1-2 years of housekeeping experience in a similar environment preferred.
- Must meet background check and specific requirements upon request.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, lifting (up to 75 lbs), and assisting with resident care.
- Regular bending, reaching, and physical movement throughout the workday.
