Overhire, Paint Shop

This is a part-time, as-needed position. If hired, the shop supervisor will add your name to a list and reach out when work is available.

Responsibilities

• Executing scenic finishes under the direction of the Scenic Charge Artist, Assistant, and staff.
• Prep and painting of both scenery and theater spaces, including filing, priming, basing, and back painting.
• Maintenance and cleanup of the shop and its tools to maintain an orderly and safe workspace.
• Previous experience as a scenic artist or equivalent in a fabrication setting.
• Working knowledge of surface prep, scenic methods, and surface finishes.
• Ability to keep scheduled commitments and adapt quickly to changing priorities and timelines.
• Work within a theatrical team while maintaining a professional demeanor.
• Adhere to technique and schedule requirements.
• Follow all health and safety guidelines required by New York State, New York City, and The Juilliard School.
• Perform physical tasks such as standing, kneeling, climbing, and lifting within standard expectations.
• Understand and support The Juilliard School’s mission and commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
• Participate in Juilliard’s inclusive policies and help promote a safe workspace.

Lead Scenic Artist Responsibilities

• Take on responsibility for a specific project, including teaching techniques and managing the performance of other painters.
• Executing scenic finishes under the direction of the Scenic Charge Artist, Assistant, and staff.

• Maintenance and cleanup of the shop and its tools to maintain an orderly and safe workspace.

Qualifications

• Portfolio demonstrating experience, various techniques, and high-quality work.

Preferred Skills

• Scenic Art training.
• Degree in Design or Production.
• Professional fabrication shop experience.
• Professional scenic art experience.

Pay

Base positions start at $34.00 per hour.
