About the role
Our Power and Energy Team is seeking a Full-Time Overhead Transmission Line Design Engineering Intern to work out of our St. Louis, MO office. This temporary position is for individuals currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program, anticipated to take place during the Spring 2027 and Summer 2027 semesters.
WSP brings global expertise in power delivery, power generation, and program management, further strengthened by the acquisition of POWER Engineers, Inc. and the recent integration of TRC Companies, expanding our energy advisory and intelligent grid services. We partner with clients to shape how energy systems evolve worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal of developing technical, social, and ethical skills.
- Learn basic principles of Civil Engineering.
- Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
- Support preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
- Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements
- Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering or related Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2027 or later.
- Must be 18 or older.
- Demonstrated interest in Civil Engineering or a related field, with a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
- Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively to both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
- Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to execute projects.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
- Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated academic achievement (e.g., GPA 3.0+) is a strong plus.
- Ideal coursework includes structural analysis, concrete, steel, soils, foundations, and surveying.
- Attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills will be critical for successful task completion.
- Prior internship and/or related engineering experience is a plus.
- Students who have passed or are scheduled to take the FE/EIT exam will be strongly considered.
- Familiarity with design, drafting, or engineering software such as MATHCAD, SOLIDWORKS, AUTOCAD, etc.
