About the role

The Territory Manager works independently on behalf of the Branch to serve the current customer base and identify and develop new sales and business opportunities through personal contact, communication, and education on the building materials product solutions Erie Materials can provide.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate and work effectively with customers, vendors, management, and other employees.
  • Pre-plan, organize, and schedule workday, calls, and contacts.
  • Develop target accounts and plan follow-up activities to obtain business.
  • Maintain an active and visible presence in the assigned region while cultivating customer relationships.
  • Contact current and prospective customers to sell building materials and solicit market area business.
  • Provide product information, samples, education, and training to current and prospective customers (and their employees).
  • Responsible for customer account balances, payments, and/or credit applications to ensure customer accounts are in good standing.
  • Support sales through current promotional programs and rounding out projects with necessary products to customers.
  • Quote products and maintain appropriate profit margin percentage.
  • Analyze blueprints for quotes and follow-up with the customer on quotes.
  • Develop creative and effective product strategies.
  • Manage customer concerns and needs.
  • Actively manage assigned territory and provide timely information, reports, and sales updates as required using CRM tools provided.
  • Drive to sales calls and meetings at job-site, vendor, and company locations, etc.
  • Maintain a clean motor vehicle report and a clean, professional appearance inside and outside of the company vehicle.
  • Schedule routine vehicle maintenance.
  • Attend sales meetings and complete all required training.
  • Perform additional responsibilities, as assigned.

Customer Service & Technology Interaction

  • Provide personalized customer service through direct in-person conversations and phone conversations.
  • Communicate with managers, other employees, customers, and vendors.
  • Maintain a professional and friendly demeanor in all interactions, both in-person and electronically through technology mediums.
  • Handle customer feedback and complaints efficiently, ensuring customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 3-5 years of related work experience and/or training in commercial distribution and outside sales, including group leader or supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver’s license is required; a clean driving record is preferred.
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of building materials product is preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Strong basic math skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Experience working with an ERP system or the ability to learn an automated ERP system.
