About the role
Richards Building Supply, a family-owned, full-service building supply center in Winterville, NC, is seeking an Outside Sales Representative to help grow their presence in a competitive market.
Responsibilities
- Build your own pipeline of business through prospecting, outreach, cold calling, and consistent follow-up
- Develop strong relationships with contractors, builders, remodelers, and trade-focused clients
- Identify opportunities with customers who may not currently buy from building supply distributors but understand our products and needs
- Deliver accurate information on pricing, inventory, and product availability
- Support customers through the credit application process when needed
- Utilize sales reports and data to identify buying trends and new opportunities
- Maintain detailed records of sales activities and customer interactions
- Collaborate closely with internal branch teams to deliver exceptional service
- Provide product knowledge support and training for customers as needed
- Resolve service concerns with professionalism and urgency
- Ensure timely follow-up on quotes and proposals
- Work independently while contributing to a strong team culture
Requirements
- A proven track record of outside sales for at least the last two years
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment
- Understands the world our customers work in — whether through hands-on construction experience, time spent in the trades, or experience selling into adjacent industries
Qualifications
- Self-starter with a hunter mentality
- Comfortable making cold calls and building a book of business from scratch
- Personable, coachable, and confident interacting with trade-focused customers
- Able to handle rejection and stay motivated
- Someone who grew up around the trades OR understands construction-related environments
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple customer needs
- Takes pride in working hard, learning quickly, and closing deals
Skills
- Strong interpersonal skills with a professional presence
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
