About the role
The Outside Sales Representative is responsible for promoting and selling construction materials and services to contractors.
Responsibilities
- Learn company products, procedures, culture, and customer service philosophy.
- Learn proper procedures for orders, special orders, purchase orders, credit memos, and receiving.
- Develop relationships with existing and potential customers through personal and phone contact, ensuring completion of plan take-offs, bids, and quotes, answering questions, and solving problems.
- Prepare and present accurate sales proposals and quotes to prospective or current customers.
- Maximize the number of sales for existing market areas.
- Provide customers with knowledgeable, courteous, and prompt service at all times.
- Research and provide accurate information to customers regarding proper materials and prices as well as technical information regarding application and specifications.
- Perform job-site visits to ensure delivery and timely completion.
- Ensure all projects generate appropriate profit margins to justify sale.
- Cook up and deliver presentations tailored to the audience needs.
- Coordinate all deliveries and credit pick-ups with yard dispatcher.
- Attend activities and functions as a representative of the company.
- Develop processes to track progress of customer's projects and monitor progress.
Requirements
- Computer literacy.
- Some knowledge of construction industry and local building codes preferred.
- Previous sales experience preferred.
- Ability to read plans and truss layouts.
- Current driver’s license, current automobile insurance, and good driving record.
- Highly motivated and target-driven with a proven track record in sales.
- Relationship management skills and openness to feedback.
