Academic Staff, Terminal (Fixed Term) position in the Schrage Lab, UW Department of Kinesiology.

About the role

The Schrage Lab is seeking a part-time Community Recruitment Specialist to support participant recruitment for an ongoing research study involving transgender and gender-diverse individuals undergoing gender-affirming hormone therapy. This community-facing role involves building relationships with clinics, community organizations, and LGBTQ+ spaces to raise awareness of the study and connect eligible individuals with study staff.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the research group at community events, health fairs, LGBTQ+ gatherings, and similar outreach settings
  • Visit partnering clinics and community centers to distribute study materials and build ongoing relationships with staff
  • Distribute study flyers and materials in approved locations
  • Provide accurate, respectful information about the study to prospective participants and answer basic eligibility questions
  • Coordinate with clinical and community partners to identify appropriate ways to share study information
  • Track and report outreach activities and recruitment metrics to the study coordinator
  • Attend regular check-ins with the study team to report on outreach progress and troubleshoot challenges
  • Develop and evaluate outreach program content and materials
  • Identify, promote, and maintain external partnerships to support the outreach program
  • Lead implementation of programs, policies, and procedures through oversight of day-to-day activities for program staff and volunteers
  • Schedule and secure resources and communicate logistics in support of outreach programs
  • Deliver outreach program content and materials to community members

Qualifications

  • One year of experience working with LGBTQ communities (required)
  • Experience with community outreach, public health education, or peer support work (preferred)
  • Comfort and confidence engaging with the public in a variety of settings
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and respect when working with LGBTQ+ and gender-diverse populations; prior experience with this community strongly preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable transportation to travel between clinics, community sites, and event locations across the Madison area
  • Ability to work some evenings/weekends for community events
  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, social work, psychology, or a related field (preferred)
