Outreach and Student Recruitment - Federal Work Study Student Assistant
This position is open to Federal Work-Study (FWS) eligible students, though all qualified students may apply. Program funding is limited; students not initially awarded FWS may request to be added to the FWS Waiting List by emailing workstudy@csusb.edu.
Eligibility Requirements
- Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the current award year
- Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress standards
- Enroll in at least half-time (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate) per semester
- Have a federal need of at least $2,000
- Submit all requested financial aid documentation from your To-Do-List by the due date
- Have an official award notification from the Financial Aid Office
- Be a U.S. citizen, eligible non-citizen, or permanent resident
About the Role
The Outreach Student Assistant plays a key role in promoting CSUSB and inspiring future Coyotes to pursue higher education. As a student ambassador for the university, you will represent CSUSB at college fairs, high school and community college visits, campus tours, student panels, and special outreach events. This dynamic position offers opportunities to develop public speaking, leadership, and professional communication skills while connecting with prospective students, families, and community partners.
Local travel to off-campus events is required; candidates with reliable transportation and access to a personal vehicle are preferred.
Responsibilities
- Support the university’s recruitment efforts by representing CSUSB at college fairs, high school/community college visits, and other off-campus events
- Assist with student panels, campus tours, CSUSB outreach events, and other duties as assigned
- Engage with prospective students, families, and community partners to share your CSUSB story and create welcoming experiences
- Contribute to event operations, including setup, coordination, and occasional lifting of event materials
- Perform duties that may involve extended walking, standing, and some physical activity
Requirements
- Admission or registration as a CSU student
- Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative
- Enrolled in at least half-time units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
- Eligible to work in the United States (Social Security Card required for payroll)
- Ability to follow oral instructions, work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and students, and communicate effectively
- Read and write English at a level appropriate to the position
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous customer service or public speaking experience
- Involvement in student organizations, athletics, or campus activities
- Comfortable speaking in front of groups
- Bilingual students are encouraged to apply
- Passion for helping prospective students succeed
- Maintain a preferred 2.5 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative
- Possession of a Driver’s License and personal vehicle (eligible for reimbursement)
Pay
Anticipated hiring range: $16.90 per hour. Compensation will consider internal equity and experience.
Schedule
- Academic year available hours: Monday through Friday (8:00 am – 5:00 pm)
- Summer available hours: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm)
- Some evening and weekend availability required
- Flexible student work schedule
This is a part-time, temporary, seasonal position. The application deadline is August 30, 2026, though the position may close earlier if an adequate number of qualified applications are received. This is an on-campus-only position; student employees are not eligible to telecommute.
