About the role
The Outpatient Surgery Center Registered Nurse functions as an integral member of a patient-care team, reflecting a culture of cooperation, enthusiasm, and mutual respect. This position is located at OSU Surgery Center – Gowdy Fields. Call is assigned on a rotating basis and as late cases arise.
The Eye and Ear Institute at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center provides specialized outpatient surgical care in ophthalmology, ENT, plastics, and other same-day procedures. RNs in the OR and Pre-Op/PACU support the full perioperative experience, including pre-surgical assessments, intraoperative circulating/scrub roles, and post-anesthesia recovery. RNs work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment focused on safety, efficiency, and exceptional patient experience. This outpatient setting offers predictable scheduling with no nights, weekends, or holidays, along with opportunities for professional growth within a leading academic medical center.
Responsibilities
- Manage care to the patient and family.
- Direct and supervise other members of the patient-care team.
- Assess, prescribe, implement, coordinate, delegate, and evaluate nursing care of patients.
- Prioritize patient-care needs and provide leadership and development of the patient-care team.
- Function fully within performance expectations defined for nurses in a surgical setting.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of registered nursing.
- Current Ohio licensure or interim permit.
- Previous surgical-center experience preferred.
Qualifications
- Minimum: 2-year college degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a major in nursing.
- Desired: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a major in nursing.
