Outpatient/ Retail Pharmacy Technician
About the role
Prepares and distributes medications in a timely manner. Collects patient information and explains any insurance changes or complications. Ensures pharmacists are aware of patient needs and prescription checks. Assures orders are processed, dispensed and delivered accurately and promptly. Assists in billing processes and maintains knowledge of insurance changes. Demonstrates knowledge of the generic names of medications, medication uses, and a good understanding of mathematical principles. Communicates with patients and pharmacies regarding prescription transfers, and informs patients of any problems. Generates reports, develops presentations, and participates in committees as needed. Ensures inventory is organized and maintained properly. Assists in the training and mentorship of new staff.

- Ensures inventory is organized and maintained properly.
- Affords assistance in the training and mentorship of new staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- One year of pharmacy technician experience, in a retail pharmacy, mail-order pharmacy, central fill, or hospital setting OR completion of a pharmacy technician student internship at AdventHealth in a retail or hospital setting, in lieu of pharmacy technician experience.
- Competent in medical terminology, medication names and medication use.
- Proficient with prescription-filling software and other computer skills.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to interact professionally with public and other medical staff.
- Knowledge of compounding oral/topical medications.
- Knowledgeable in all the major prescription insurance carrier reimbursement guidelines and eligibility for coverage by third-party payers.
- Previous experience in a managed healthcare organization, medical insurance company, pharmacy benefit management or other healthcare related entity.
- Specialty pharmacy experience preferred.
Qualifications
- High School Grad or Equiv.
Skills
- Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT).
- PTCB Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).
- NHA Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).
