Position Summary
The Outpatient Pharmacy Technician supports safe, timely, and efficient medication preparation, dispensing, and customer service for the outpatient pharmacy of Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center under the supervision of an Outpatient Pharmacy Manager or a registered pharmacist.
Responsibilities
- Prescription intake and processing
- Third-party billing support
- Inventory management
- Point-of-sale transactions
- Medication preparation and labeling
- Customer assistance
- Maintenance of medication storage systems
- Support for 340B program operations through accurate prescription processing, inventory handling, documentation, and compliance with applicable hospital, state, federal, and program requirements
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent (proof of highest level of education completed).
- Current Arizona Pharmacy Technician license/registration in good standing.
- Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification in good standing preferred upon hire and may be required within a defined period of employment per department policy.
- Basic typing and computer skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion, professionalism, and within regulatory standards, including HIPAA requirements.
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Able to perform basic math calculations accurately.
- Able to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, reach, and stretch using good body mechanics for sustained periods of time.
- Mental and physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of retail, community, ambulatory, or hospital outpatient pharmacy experience.
- Previous experience with pharmacy dispensing software, third-party billing, point-of-sale systems, and electronic health record systems.
- Knowledge of insurance adjudication, prior authorization processes, and prescription workflow.
- Knowledge of 340B program operations, split-billing, inventory replenishment, and documentation requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to provide courteous and professional service to patients, providers, and staff.
- English proficiency with excellent written and verbal fluency.
- Bilingual skills.
