About the role
The Certified Technician provides general support to the pharmacist by receiving, reviewing, compounding, and dispensing medications under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist. This position qualifies for our Pharmacy Technician Incentive Program, which includes $5,000 in commitment incentives spread over a two-year period. Payment is made after six months, one year, and two years of employment.
Responsibilities
- Receives and accurately transcribes orders from prescribers under the supervision of a pharmacist.
- Processes prescriptions in a timely order and manner to best meet patient needs.
- Assists with training new employees, educating them in job-specific functions.
- Assists with Medication Therapy Management, Medsync, and other clinical outreach programs.
- Selects and prepares medications (oral, topical, controlled substances, etc.) as authorized by a physician, under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.
- Prepares medications for pick-up, delivery, or shipping.
- Returns unpurchased medications to stock and processes credits.
- Solves issues with patient payment (prior authorization, patient assistance needed, etc.).
- Sells prescriptions to patients and processes payment.
- Accurately manages cash and other payments.
- Responds to and triages requests from customers for assistance with pharmacy services that do not require a pharmacist’s professional judgment or expertise.
- Operates and supports automated dispensing technology to supply correct medications for individual patients, according to pharmacist and physician orders.
- Orders, receives, restocks, and rotates inventory and supplies, and contributes to expiration date management.
- Contributes to process improvement projects.
Requirements
- Registration as a technician with the NC Board of Pharmacy unless enrolled in a PharmD program. If currently enrolled, an NCBOP Pharmacy Intern registration may be accepted.
- CPhT from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA unless enrolled in a PharmD program; if enrolled, this can be waived for the duration of the PharmD program.
- Prior pharmacy technician experience is preferred.
Education
None required as long as other position qualifications are met. Current enrollment in a PharmD program is required if working as a registered pharmacy intern with the NC Board of Pharmacy.
Pay
$18.48 - $25.89 per hour (Hiring Range). Pay offers are determined by experience and internal equity.
