Job Overview

Under the direction of a licensed pharmacist and following established policies and procedures, the Pharmacy Technician performs a variety of technical procedures to support pharmacy operations.

Department: OP Retail Pharmacy

Job Status: 40 hours per week, eligible for benefits

  • Shift: Days/evenings (not a set schedule) and rotating weekends.
  • Shift Times: Monday - Friday, 8am-8pm. Saturday, 8am-5pm and Sunday, 9am-2pm.
  • Shift Length: Varies between 5-10 hours.
  • Weekend Requirement: Rotation determined by business need and training.
  • Holiday Requirement: No holidays at this time.
  • Eligible Incentives: Relocation assistance available to qualified external applicants.

Salary Information: $22.50 to $29.05 *Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Independently prepares medication for dispensing/patient administration in accordance with hospital policy and procedure.
  • Assists with safety and quality improvement projects for the department including accreditation.
  • May assist with shipping medications, monthly clinical assessments and ordering medications.
  • May interact and communicate with patients, families, providers, and co-workers including point of sale, benefit investigation and insurance coordination.
  • Assists in inventory management, including following department policies and procedures to manage outdated medications, cycle counts, unit inspections and medication transfer. Restocks medications as needed.
  • Independently prepares medications for dispensing through pharmacy software while verifying all lot and expiration numbers; follows appropriate pharmacy software procedures when preparing medications.
  • Applies standard pharmaceutical/medical terms, abbreviations and symbols commonly used in the prescribing and dispensing of medications.
  • Performs arithmetic calculations for usual dosage determinations required in medication preparation.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, quality improvement, environmental and infection control standards, adheres to regulatory requirements and maintains environmental cleanliness of the pharmacy areas in accordance with regulatory and policy requirements.
  • Reports errors and adverse drug events using the hospital variance reporting program (QSRS).
  • Maintains daily workflow to meet established priorities and production requirements and completes daily operations tasks utilizing assigned applications and software.
  • Assists in the onboarding of pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, pharmacy residents, interns, and students.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • State of Colorado Pharmacy Technician (PHAT) Certification
  • Certificate through a nationally recognized certification board or body approved by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) such as the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcare Association (NHA)

$19.37 to $29.05
