OUTPATIENT CLERK -

Department: ENT Clinic • Full Time (1.00 FTE) • Day Shift

About the role

Perform a variety of customer service duties in an ambulatory setting. Serve as the first contact for incoming customers, providing information and assistance, scheduling appointments, verifying medical coverage, and performing basic cashier duties. Ascertain customer needs and direct appropriately while ensuring adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. This role does not involve patient care assignments.

Responsibilities

• Admission/Discharge: Assist patients and families with all aspects of the admission and discharge process; communicate and assist in resolving problems.
• Cashier: Perform basic cashiering duties; collect monies for various activities; close and balance cash register.
• Customer Service: Provide information and assistance to internal and external customers; ensure quality service and customer satisfaction.
• Data Entry: Enter various data into computer; verify data, make corrections, and ensure accuracy.
• Registration: Interview patients and/or families to obtain demographic and financial information and signatures as required; schedule new and follow-up appointments.
• Registration/Discharge: Verify insurance eligibility and restrictions, including referrals, prior authorization, and financial assessment as required; may process patient discharge, including obtaining referrals, scheduling tests, and other related activities.
• Telephone: Answer and direct phone calls as requested; take and relay messages.
• Assistance: May assist other departments/clinics as requested.
• Patient-Centered Care: Adhere to and promote the core expectations of the Patient-Centered Medical Home or Patient-Centered Specialty Practice as applicable.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• 1 year of directly related experience.
• Bilingual skills in English and any of the following: Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo (preferred but not required).
• Medical office and/or clerical experience (preferred but not required).

Physical Conditions

• Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods.
• Working Conditions: Minor hazards including physical risks, dirt, dust, fumes, and noise.
• Tuberculosis testing is completed upon hire and additionally as required.
