Outage Coordinator

TC Energy · Charleston, WV · 3 wk ago
HybridFull-time

About the Role

The Outage Coordinator supports the outage planning process for USNG growth, preventative, and capital maintenance projects—from early project inception through design and execution. This role serves as a central point of coordination across Safety & Technical Services (S&TS), Work Management, Gas Control & Planning, Field Operations, and Projects to ensure outage requirements are identified early, scoped appropriately, and scheduled well in advance to minimize customer impacts.

The role maintains outage schedules, tracks project and outage readiness, facilitates stakeholder discussions, supports reporting, and follows up on action items. A key objective is to drive early visibility, accountability, and discipline in outage planning to support safe, reliable operations and minimize execution-phase disruption.

In addition to coordination and tracking, the Outage Coordinator plays an active relationship-management and outreach role—educating stakeholders on outage planning expectations, timelines, and dependencies while reinforcing standard processes.

Responsibilities

  • Outage Planning Coordination:
    • Partner with S&TS, Work Management, Gas Control & Planning, Field Operations, and Projects to support outage identification and development from project inception through execution readiness.
    • Ensure outage and commercial requirements are identified early in the project lifecycle and translated into clear, actionable planning inputs.
    • Facilitate alignment between project teams and operational stakeholders on outage scope, timing, constraints, dependencies, and agreed timelines for providing outage information.
    • Drive proactive planning of outage windows well in advance of execution to support capacity studies, operational readiness, and customer impact mitigation.
  • Process Governance, Reporting & Accountability:
    • Track projects through defined stages of execution and outage development, ensuring progression aligns with agreed timelines and expectations.
    • Maintain accurate and timely outage planning data to support visibility, reporting, and decision-making.
    • Run standardized reports to monitor project status, aging, and readiness across the outage planning lifecycle.
    • Identify projects that stall within a given stage beyond agreed timeframes and actively follow up with the accountable owner to resolve blockers and reinforce process ownership.
    • Escalate risks, delays, or systemic issues impacting outage readiness to appropriate stakeholders and leadership as needed.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Outreach:
    • Serve as a liaison between project teams and operational stakeholders to ensure consistent understanding of outage planning processes and requirements.
    • Conduct regular outreach with stakeholder groups to educate teams on outage development expectations, timelines, and handoff points.
    • Reinforce standard processes and promote early engagement to reduce late-stage changes and reactive planning.
    • Build strong working relationships across functions to improve collaboration, transparency, and shared accountability.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify recurring gaps, bottlenecks, or breakdowns in outage planning and project development processes, including reasons behind date changes and scope shifts, to determine patterns that can be addressed.
    • Recommend and support continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen outage planning discipline, data quality, and cross-functional alignment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations, Project Management, Business, or related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 3–7+ years of relevant experience working in commercial gas operations, project execution, outage planning, or work management environments.
  • Adept at navigating complex data environments and translating fragmented information into clear, meaningful, actionable insights that drive accountability and proactive planning.
  • Strong data discipline with the ability to identify data quality gaps, inconsistencies, or breakdowns that impact outage readiness and project progression.
  • Strong understanding of cross-functional project development and operational coordination.
  • Proven ability to track work, manage dependencies, and hold stakeholders accountable to agreed timelines.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence without direct authority.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with work management systems, outage notification processes, and project lifecycle governance.
  • Experience using SAP and Power BI is a plus.
  • Ability to travel to meet in person with stakeholder groups as needed (4-6 trips/year).
