Our story

SEE was originally known as Pilton Video, which was founded in 1981 to develop people, support the work of local organisations, and be at the heart of community development exclusively in North Edinburgh, through film education and production. In 1995 the organisation grew to become an Edinburgh-wide resource, before rebranding to Screen Education Edinburgh in 2011. Irvine Welsh, the Edinburgh-born novelist, playwright, storyteller and screenwriter, has been the patron of Screen Education Edinburgh since March 2014. The Building Image description: The SEE building from the outside, a concrete building with a garden and trees Our main base is in the community of North Edinburgh, in a building we previously shared with community arts organisation Pilton Arts and the Craigroyston School House, which educated vulnerable pupils for over 20 years. Today, all six flats are utilised to help develop our learners of all ages and support the filmmaking community of Edinburgh with office space, multiple Avid edit suites, a dedicated learning suite, spaces for training, workshops and screening spaces, a dedicated mini film studio and a youth drop-in facility.
