Our story
About the organisation
SEE was originally known as Pilton Video, founded in 1981 to develop people, support local organisations, and be at the heart of community development in North Edinburgh through film education and production. In 1995, the organisation expanded to serve all of Edinburgh and rebranded as Screen Education Edinburgh in 2011. Irvine Welsh, the Edinburgh-born novelist, playwright, storyteller, and screenwriter, has been the patron since March 2014.
Their main base is in North Edinburgh, a building previously shared with Pilton Arts and Craigroyston School House. Today, the facility includes six flats used to support learners of all ages, along with office space, multiple Avid edit suites, a dedicated learning suite, training and workshop spaces, screening rooms, a mini film studio, and a youth drop-in facility.
