OT Fellow - Sports Medicine (January 2027)

About the Role

This position is for post-graduate training in a structured occupational therapy fellowship program under the supervision of a Fellowship Director and other occupational therapists. Through the training program, the incumbent assesses patients, develops and initiates treatment plans based on evaluation results. In addition to clinical practice, the fellow will receive mentoring and didactic training over a 12-month period.

Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient served, including understanding the principles of growth and development across different life cycles.

Responsibilities

• Participates and completes all aspects of the OT Fellowship Program, including reporting, mentoring sessions, clinical and didactic training, and other duties as assigned based on the program’s AOTA accreditation standards.
• Assumes responsibility in the care of the patient by performing complete, comprehensive evaluations with a physician’s referral and accurately interpreting findings.
• Develops a written plan of care, sets goals based on evaluation findings, and creates a comprehensive program to attain those goals.
• Implements occupational therapy treatment programs and provides basic occupational therapy treatments while demonstrating competency in performing these skills.
• Responsible for patient care performed by assistants and rehabilitation technicians.
• Regularly assesses patients to monitor progress toward treatment goals and adjusts goals, plans, or programs as needed.
• Motivates and instructs patients and caregivers using appropriate methods.
• Presents relevant special topics in professional literature at clinic meetings, grand rounds, conferences, university settings, and other meetings as delegated or requested.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or graduate degree in occupational therapy from an accredited university-based occupational therapy program.
• Current or temporary license to practice Occupational Therapy by the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners or by the Occupational Therapy Compact Commission (must obtain within 30 days of hire).

Skills

• Occasional/frequent pushing and lifting of 75–100 pounds and carrying of up to 30 pounds.
• Prolonged standing; frequent walking, stooping, and squatting.
• Fine hand dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
• Ability to receive oral and written communication and to communicate verbally and in writing.
• Visual ability to monitor instruments, computers, and equipment, recognize alphanumeric characters, distinguish colors, and observe physical characteristics.
