About the Role
The Orthotics and Prosthetics (O&P) Technician plays a key role in the fabrication, repair, and maintenance of orthotic and prosthetic devices. This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to safely operate specialized machinery and tools, and familiarity with the materials commonly used in O&P manufacturing. The technician collaborates closely with Orthotists and Prosthetists to ensure that devices are built to meet specific patient needs and company quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates general mechanical aptitude and the ability to operate designated machinery, tools, and computers skillfully and safely.
- Demonstrates familiarity with the properties of various materials used in Orthotics and Prosthetics.
- Fabricates and repairs orthotic and/or prosthetic devices according to company quality and quantity standards.
- Demonstrates the ability to identify and resolve technical issues related to device fabrication and fitting.
- Performs ordering, receiving, and other inventory tasks as assigned.
- Manages mold organization, complies with OSHA safety regulations, and maintains a clean, orderly work environment.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 1-3 years of experience in a medical setting, preferably in a physician practice
- At least 2 years of experience as an Orthotics Technician
- Certification from the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics, Inc. or the National Board for Orthopedic Technologists or American Society of Orthopedic Professionals preferred
- EMR/EHR experience preferred, specifically NextGen or Athena
- Proficiency in a Windows environment with a working knowledge of Word, Outlook, and the Internet
- Willingness to be flexible and adaptable in a complex, matrix environment
