Rehabilitation Tech

About the Role

Assists the facility and therapy department to direct daily operations and maintain compliance with regulatory guidelines. The Rehabilitation Tech may assist with treatments only when under the direct supervision of a therapist or nurse, as defined by Medicare Regulations and state law.

Responsibilities

• Complete clerical and patient, client, and team member-related duties.
• Provide restorative care as applicable by state/federal regulations and organizational procedures.
• Participate in department and facility meetings as assigned.
• Perform clerical work as directed, including computerized activities.
• Consistently attend work and provide appropriate notice for scheduled vacations.
• Answer and direct phone calls.
• Develop and maintain a filing system.
• Maintain compliance and regulatory-driven duties such as obtaining physician signatures, maintaining quarterly screen compliance, and adhering to State or CMS regulations.
• Coordinate work activities with members of other departments and staff within the rehabilitation department.
• Demonstrate a positive attitude and team-building approach with all patients, clients, and team members.
• Provide general support to visitors.
• Coordinate therapy schedules with nursing if needed.
• Assist patients, clients, and team members with issues or needs.
• Act quickly and responsibly in cases of emergency.
• Participate in facility performance improvement programs.
• Perform other duties as requested.
• Report any unusual incidents to the Administrator.
• Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the treatment areas and department.
• Assist with maintaining an adequate stock of supplies and equipment.

Requirements

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• CNA certificate if required by state law.
• Previous experience in patient/resident care in a nursing center, hospital, or rehabilitation center preferred (therapy students will be considered).
• Completion of on-the-job orientation and training program.

Working Conditions

• Works in well-lighted/ventilated office and therapy areas.
• Sitting, standing, bending, lifting, and moving intermittently during working hours.
• Subject to frequent interruptions.
• Involved with patients/residents, family members, personnel, etc., under all conditions/circumstances.
• Subject to hostile and emotionally upset patients/residents, family members, etc.
• Communicates with medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department supervisors.
• Willingness to work beyond normal working hours and in other positions temporarily when necessary.
• Must be constantly alert for patient/resident safety.
• Subject to falls, burns from equipment, infectious diseases, odors, etc., throughout the workday.
• Subject to lifting, carrying, and supporting patients/residents.
• Able to travel between facilities as indicated by Supervisor.
• Mobile phone use permitted only during break and non-paid allocated lunch times; phones should be kept on vibrate at all times.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to move (walk, stoop, bend, stand, sit, push, pull, and lift) intermittently throughout the workday.
• Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner.
• Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
• Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that enable these senses to function adequately.
• Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with patients, clients, and team members.
• Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
• Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility.
• Lifting 25 pounds maximum with frequent lifting, moving, and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Reaching, handling, fingering, talking, hearing, visual near acuity, bending, stooping, and walking.

Exposure Risk

The Rehabilitation Tech is at high risk for exposure to blood and body fluids.

Supervision

Reports to Administrator. Supervision exercised as delegated.
