Orthopedic Technician - Full time - Days

About the role

The Orthopedic Technician functions with demonstrated expertise in the delivery of direct Orthopedic care to children. Partners with healthcare team and assesses, prioritizes and provides care to clinic patient population. Meets specific requirements, goals, and competencies established within the Orthopedic clinic.

Responsibilities

• Partners with healthcare team and assesses, prioritizes and provides care to clinic patient population.
• Moves and transfers patients as needed.
• Assists with casting and bracing procedures.
• Lifts and moves orthopedic devices as necessary.
• Works in a fast-paced environment, adapting to changing priorities.
• Communicates effectively with patients, families, providers, staff, and leadership.

Requirements

• 1+ years pediatric experience in orthopedics with proven competency in all relevant areas of practice preferred.
• High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED).
• Course work in biology or physics preferred.
• BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross within 90 Days Required.
• CMA-Certified Medical Assistant - American Association of Medical Assistants Preferred.
• ORTHO-Orthopedic Technician - National Board for Certification of Orthopedic Technologists, Inc. Preferred.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of orthopedic surgery instruments, orthopedic casting techniques, application of braces, normally acquired through a minimum of one year related experience preferred.
• Must be able to transfer and ambulate patients, lift orthopedic devices, stand for long periods of time and lift objects up to 75 pounds.
• Frequently bends, lifts, twists, reaches, and squats. Occasionally push/pulls and does overhead work.
• Good interpersonal skills to effectively interact with physicians, patients, parents and staff.
• Requires flexibility of time and duties in order to work in a fast paced environment.
• Familiarity with personal computer operations and functions.

• Good analytical ability to observe and communicate problems as they arise.
• Promotes courteous behavior as outlined in the department's guest relations' guidelines.
