Orthopedic Tech Coordinator - Adult Outpatient Pavilion - Days

About the role

The Multispecialty Surgery & Wound Care Clinic located on the 12th floor of the Adult Outpatient Pavilion provides specialized Orthopedic and Plastic & Reconstructive care to adult patients. The clinic serves patients throughout their diagnostic and surgical journey and is proud to have several of its surgeons recognized as top doctors in their specialties.

Responsibilities

• Independently performs all job duties listed in the Orthopedic Tech job description at an expert level and maintains valid OTC certification.
• Performs setup/maintenance of traction, fitting and finishing of castings, and other job responsibilities delegated by the Assistant Clinical Manager (ACM) or the Clinical Manager (CM).
• Establishes and maintains relationships with patients and coordinates care across disciplines.
• Mentors and educates the Orthopedic Tech staff by structuring and coordinating their onboarding and providing continuing education and/or training to all staff.
• Researches to ensure patient care maintains a high level of evidence-based practice.
• Provides outreach across all Ambulatory clinics.
• Possesses the highest level of skill in the application and removal of casting, splints, and devices, and the set up and maintenance of traction.
• Fits and finishes castings after fabrication, involving extensive patient contact.
• Assists the physician in the outpatient procedure setting and clinic, fitting orthopedic devices/braces per provider orders.
• Collaborates with provider and/or clinical staff to facilitate proper patient education and documentation related to the proper use of crutches, canes, walkers and wheelchairs, proper care of casts, splints, or other orthopedic devices.
• Attends advanced level lectures and seminars to further their education and provides regular in-services with medical staff to share this knowledge and provide ongoing training and learning related to any reported safety events involving casting or splinting.
• Maintains compliance standards and regulations such as Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation, Health Information Privacy and Portability Act and other hospital or governmental regulations as they become known to the staff.
• Escalates any urgent care concerns to the ACM.

Requirements

• Required Education: High School Diploma or GED, B.S Health Science or other healthcare related degree.
• Licensure/Certification Required: Orthopedic Technician Certified (OTC), National Board Certification Orthopedic Technologists (within 6 months of hire).
• Required Experience: Five (5) years experience as an Orthopedic Technician, Three (3) years experience as team lead and/or trainer.
• Preferred Education: B.S Health Science or other healthcare related degree.
• Preferred Experience: Academic Health Care Experience, Working in care delivery in an outpatient setting.
