Orthopedic Equipment Tech II
About the role
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is seeking an Orthopedic Equipment Tech II to join their team. This position works at the North Texas Physical Management Center (NTPMC).
Responsibilities
- Construct, modify, repair seating systems and/or other projects using the most safe method, least cost method (labor and material), producing the most durable product, and providing maximum consumer satisfaction.
- Assess feasibility of in-house design and fabrication/modification of adaptive equipment.
- Share new ideas and completed project design with others.
- Use varied media (catalogs, web sites, etc.) to research product information.
- Provide quality assurance, including quality checks, preventative maintenance, ongoing training.
- Promote safety, health and well-being of employees and consumers, and implement/monitor safety program at the NTPMC.
- Follow policies and procedures.
- Ensure state property within area of responsibility is accounted for and maintained in proper working condition.
- Completes special projects and brings them to a successful completion by a specified date.
- Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited high school or GED required.
- One (1) year of work experience in designing, constructing, upholstering, maintaining and modifying adaptive equipment for the handicapped preferred.
Qualifications
Knowledge of orthopedic equipment manufacture and maintenance work; of the various types and qualities of plastics, fabrics, metals, and wood; of anatomical terminology; and of occupational and physical therapy procedures.
Skill in the use of tools and equipment for the manufacture and maintenance of adaptive equipment.
Ability to train and/or supervise others; to prepare specifications; to plan and organize repair and preventive maintenance programs; and to prepare concise reports.
Ability to lift up to 70 pounds without assistance.
