About the role
The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. The centers provide campus-based direct services and supports at 13 centers located throughout the state.
Responsibilities
- Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
- Designs, manufactures, and modifies orthopedic equipment including welding, upholstery, and working with plastics, as required by the Habilitative Services Department.
- Planning, scheduling, and processing paperwork. Repair orthotics equipment.
- On call service when scheduled.
- Train others as needed.
- Able to lift 70 lbs.
- Manufactures customized, modified, and adaptive equipment.
- Measures individuals with disabilities using adaptive measuring devices.
- Counsels on the use of adaptive equipment.
- Assists in planning programs for the manufacture and the preventive maintenance of modified and customized adaptive equipment or orthopedic devices.
- May coordinate production, maintenance, and repair programs.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited high school or GED, plus one (1) year of work-related experience in the maintenance or modification of adaptive equipment or one (1) year commensurate experience in the field of welding construction and metal fabrication.
- Experience in upholstery work preferred.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of Orthopedic equipment manufacture and maintenance work.
- Knowledge of the qualities of various materials used in the fabrication of adaptive equipment, which include welding, upholstery, and working with plastics.
- The ability to lift 70 pounds without assistance.
- The ability to train (and/or) supervise others, prepare specifications, plan and organize time, and to prepare concise and timely reports.
Skills
- Knowledge in the use of a wide range of handheld and power tools used in the manufacture of adaptive equipment.

$3,095.33 - $4,594.50 per month
