About the role
Under general supervision, performs skilled journey-level mechanical work in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of a variety of automotive, heavy equipment, and other related equipment; performs related work as required.
Responsibilities
- Performs skilled journey-level mechanical work in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of automotive, heavy equipment, and other related equipment.
- Diagnoses mechanical problems and determines appropriate repairs.
- Performs preventive maintenance on a variety of vehicles and equipment.
- Repairs and replaces engines, transmissions, brakes, differentials, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and other vehicle components.
- Operates a variety of hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment, and lifting devices.
- Inspects vehicles and equipment for safety and compliance with regulations.
- Maintains records of repairs and maintenance performed.
- Assists in the training and supervision of lower-level mechanics and support staff.
- May operate vehicles and equipment to test repairs.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Four (4) years of experience in automotive or heavy equipment repair, including two (2) years at a journey-level.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an Arizona Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake endorsement within six (6) months of hire.
- Certification as an ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Master Technician is highly desirable.
Skills
- Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of automotive and heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures related to vehicle and equipment repair.
- Skill in diagnosing mechanical problems and determining appropriate repairs.
- Skill in the use of hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment, and lifting devices.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
- Ability to maintain accurate records of repairs and maintenance performed.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.
