About the role

Under general supervision, performs skilled journey-level mechanical work in the repair and maintenance of a variety of automotive, heavy equipment, and light equipment. Performs related work as required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs skilled mechanical work in the repair and maintenance of automotive, heavy equipment, and light equipment.
  • Diagnoses mechanical problems and determines appropriate repairs; inspects, tests, and adjusts vehicles and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment, including oil changes, lubrication, and tune-ups.
  • Repairs and replaces engines, transmissions, brakes, differentials, electrical systems, fuel systems, hydraulic systems, and other vehicle components.
  • Operates a variety of hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop machinery.
  • Maintains accurate records of repairs and maintenance performed.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
  • May provide guidance and training to lower-level mechanics and helpers.
  • Responds to emergency call-outs as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Four (4) years of experience in automotive, heavy equipment, or light equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Possession of a valid Arizona driver's license.
  • Certification as an ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Master Technician is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of automotive, heavy equipment, and light equipment.
  • Knowledge of the principles of operation of gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and determine appropriate repairs.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop machinery.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and the public.

Pay

$22.98 - $32.17 hourly

Schedule

  • Full-time position.
  • Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
  • May require occasional overtime and emergency call-outs.
